I laud Atari's decision to make a Baldur's Gate game without Bioware -- hopefully without Obsidian too. I do hope that Atari uses 2nd edition AD&D or 3rd edition D&D rules, not 4th edition. They would do well to make something like Dungeons and Dragons Tactics except multi-platform (Mac, PC, Xbox, PS3) and with an overland campaign map. I do believe the Campaign Cartographer "Forgotten Realms Atlas" series would serve them well as a research component.

I'd suggest that the actual city of Baldur's Gate and Western Heartlands should appear in the initial game, only ten or eleven urban regions and alot of wilderness, with several dangerous adventuring tropes. Other regions could be expanded on in future releases.

My problem with the present military scenario is that realistically, the UN and EU would criticise our behavior and tactics as leading to a conjoined Islamic absorbtion of allies west of Jordan. The strategy of tension has been too tense.

We really should pull back and try the entertainment and sales approach.

a letter to tara vanflower.. she answered, "what?"

----------------- Original Message -----------------
From: september
Date: Jul 28, 2007 1:33 PM

Dear Ms. Simperton,

The way we become ourselves and the process of individuation might seem very complex to a young lady even one so intelligent as yourself. However, after decades of observing people grow and mature, we realise that there are two currents that influence personhood, the soul and the heart.

If your heart is set on being one of the Simpson family or even Martin Prince, first notice just what appeals to you in this character and commonalities that you share. Emphasise an emulation of the virtues of this character rather than the vices and focus on those interests which you already have. Since you are already a lovely and well educated homosexual male and play D&D, you have much in common with Martin Prince, Sam Houston, and Madonna -- all of whom are regulars on The Simpsons TV show.

I notice that you are deemed a rock and roll star and that your band is named The Gorilla Killaz. Many people would assume that a brilliant and beautiful rock and roll star would not desire a life of quiet intellectualism and homosexuality such as is had by Martin Prince. Although I am of royal Arthedain descent and not at all recovering from a rough life of homeless itineration as might *seem* to be the case, I too have a fond affection for a fictional family (the Windsors) and have sought to emulate Samantha Windsor on many occasions.

Also keep in mind that if ever the vices of a fictional character seem alluring, often these vices are exaggerated due to the need of a television show to propagate itself on the corrupt vehicle of media known as the Internet and also due to the efforts of communist agents of the Church of Satanic Scientology. So it is not at all true that Homer Simpson would befriend a wicked criminal such as Neil Gaiman nor is it true that Martin Prince would ever pretend to be a Chinese goth rocker by the name of September for the sake of seducing hyper-intelligent teenage girls.

I would write a longer bit of advice, however I am beholden to a professional life, as you well know. As a thanatologist with The Banzai Institute and a defender of Mankind Itself, I can only spend a few hours daily on the internet.

Now I must resume my duties. I am to accompany the Slovenian ambassador to Chicago where we will brief a UNSAF task force on meteor fragments discovered in the Great Lake region by .Ms. Priddy, who was visiting me during my extended sick leave in Janesville Wisconsin, a sick leave I hope to resume shortly.

hugs and kisses,
Lloyd Warren Ravlin III

Sometimes what one thinks of as a game is not one. Context is irrelevant. Projectiles and slow dances are often provided relevance.

I just said hi to someone who appears to be an old friend of mine. It's been ten years. I do not think it's her anymore. That happens. We're all descendents of those who played roles (but for a few newcomers). The same names, different faces. Last I saw the beautiful lady (now married?) she was standing on an escalator somewhere in Bloomington, Indiana. University of Indiana, Bloomington?

Although to be honest, she tends to appear sometimes in faraway places without much explanation other than, "My TARDIS broke down." A really nice woman. Probably soon married or impregnated or something else that women do for celebrations. I'm not altogether sure.

Who remembers that there were circular holes designed into the ceiling of the building 66 basement computer cluster? Well, after I had those sealed off out of fear that pilgriming children en route to the Holy Lands would fall through one onto my head, she was part of a "Glorious September Protection Team" to ensure that MIT D&D players didn't throw a fit.

Moreover, her very first letter to me contained an excerpt of odd humour (probably a cryptograhic message contained in scat metaphor).
